Master of Clinical Pharmacy
In an era of complex pharmacotherapies and an increased focus on patient safety, clinical pharmacists are crucial members of the healthcare team. Our curriculum is meticulously designed to transform experienced pharmacists into expert practitioners who can optimize medication therapy, improve patient outcomes, and lead evidence-based practice.
Our program focuses on:

Advanced Clinical Expertise
Deepening knowledge in complex therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacogenomics to manage patients with multi-morbidities and specialized needs.

Direct Patient Care Rotations
Providing immersive, hands-on experience in diverse clinical settings, from internal medicine and critical care to ambulatory care and cardiology.

Research and Leadership
Developing skills in research methodology, Pharmacoeconomics, and healthcare policy to contribute to the advancement of the pharmacy profession and the healthcare system.
Clinical pharmacists are at the forefront of optimizing patient care, conducting comprehensive medication management, and leading antimicrobial stewardship efforts. They are crucial in preventing adverse drug events, reducing hospital readmissions, and ensuring the cost-effective use of medications. BMC graduates are prepared to become leaders in Saudi Arabia’s evolving healthcare landscape, pursuing rewarding careers as clinical specialists in hospitals, academic institutions, and regulatory bodies.
The Master of Clinical Pharmacy program at BMC is a rigorous, five-semester (2 ½ year) journey that integrates advanced scientific knowledge with intensive clinical practice. The program totals 67 credit hours, structured to build competency progressively from foundational sciences to specialized clinical practice.
The curriculum is delivered in three distinct phases:
First Year: Foundational and Therapeutic Knowledge
24 Credit HoursStudents build a strong foundation in advanced clinical pharmacokinetics and research methodology. The core of the first year is a four-course sequence of Advanced Therapeutics (I-V), covering complex disease states and their pharmacological management. Courses in patient safety, pharmacoeconomics, and pharmacoepidemiology are also introduced.
Second Year: Advanced Concepts and Introductory Rotations
28 Credit HoursThe first semester focuses on finishing the advanced therapeutic sequence, personalized medicine (pharmacogenomics), and contemporary topics like digital health and hospital pharmacy management. The second semester marks the start of clinical rotations, with students completing their first four rotations in Internal Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Infectious Disease, and Hospital Pharmacy, alongside beginning their research project.
Third Year: Specialized Practice and Research
15 Credit HoursThis year is entirely dedicated to advanced clinical practice and research. Students complete specialized rotations in Critical Care and Cardiology, along with two elective rotations in areas such as Nephrology, Endocrinology, or Pediatrics. The program culminates with the completion of Research Project II, demonstrating the student's ability to contribute to the body of clinical knowledge.
From day one, the curriculum emphasizes the application of knowledge to patient care. Students engage in case-based learning in the classroom before transitioning to over 800 contact hours of direct patient care rotations. These rotations take place in various healthcare settings, allowing students to manage real patients under the guidance of experienced preceptors. The sequential research project (I & II) further solidifies their ability to translate clinical questions into actionable research, preparing graduates to be evidence-based practitioners and future clinical leaders.
