The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the first countries in the world to provide humanitarian assistance and assistance to countries facing hardship. The Kingdom has provided humanitarian, developmental and charitable assistance from grants and soft loans to all countries without discrimination based on color, religion or race. Multiple programs and initiatives are offered in contribution towards SDGs.

BMC is keen developing its capabilities in accordance with the strategic priorities and the Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasize the role of universities in qualifying human capabilities and presenting distinct research work thereby impact on developing the community. BMC establishes an institutional culture that indorse individual creativity emphasizing teamwork values, mutual respect, and confidence.

BMC has many initiatives building strong partnerships and collaborations on different levels and scales to build capacities, sharing experiences and information, as well as foster best practices toward achieving SDGs. The commitment of BMC and its impact on these SDGs has been achieved in collaborations and partnerships with local and national societies, nongovernmental, public, and non-profit organizations as well as regional, and international institutions

BMC collaboration and partnerships aim to develop and promote its educational programs as well as scientific research and innovation through distinct cooperation and initiatives in accordance with the 2030 vision and implemented pursuance with the goals of KSA’s development plans towards the knowledge-based economy as a strategic priority to enhance scientific research, contribute to the development of national economy and diversification of its resources, and enable an exchange of knowledge. BMC has direct involvement in and input into national government and nongovernment organizations SDG policy development through identifying problems and challenges, developing policies and strategies, modelling likely futures with interventions, monitoring, and enabling adaptive management. BMC collaborate with NGOs to tackle the SDGs through student and staff volunteering, outreach and community services programs, joint research programs, and development of educational resources.

BMC initiates and participates in cross-sectoral dialogue about the SDGs through conferences, workshops as well as mutual understanding with government and NGOs. BMC has diversity of partnership and agreements with governmental sector and national universities and hospitals as Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, Ministry of Hajj and Umra, Jeddah Municipality, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah University, King Fahd Armed Forces Hospital, Saudi German Hospital, NMC Hospital.

Through regional and international collaboration and joint research projects, BMC review comparative approaches and develop international best practice on tackling the SDGs. BMC has successfulresearch projects in collaboration with national, regional and international institutions resulted in publishing of high-quality scientific papers in international specialized journals that highlighting the challenges and/or problems facing communities or individuals, addressing the effects, review comparative approaches, recommend, and develop best practice on tackling the SDGs. BMC has wide range of successful collaborations with internationalinstitutions, organizations, and companies through MOUs, and agreements. To promote and building-up its capacity; BMC in collaboration with Maastricht University developed a competency based and contemporary MBBS program and contemporary MBBS program and Harvard Medical School in collaborative accredited medical courses. In addition, BMC has wide range of international collaborations with institutions, organizations, international companies as “AMBOSS GmbH” to enhance the standards of teaching and learning through support the students with powerful learning and clinical tools combined into one platform. BMC’s Pharmacy program has been accredited Internationally by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) since 2018. This program is designed to assure pharmacists, boards of pharmacy, and other members of pharmacy’s community of interests, of the quality of continuing pharmacy education programs. Moreover, BMC has been accredited by World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

Relationships to Support the Goals

A broad spectrum of cooperation among BMC, community associations, and NGOs as well as culture and arts societies in which BMC shares in, hosts and supports community services, volunteering efforts and promote the culture and arts.
Successful collaboration between BMC and the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) resulted in establishment of Dental Fellowship Program at BMC as well as many professional development diplomas in health security, dental assistant, and nursing care technician. All these partnerships and collaborations develop and promote the health care practitioner’s skills in addition to contribute meeting the needs of national labor market for qualified health cadres, and reducing unemployment rates among graduates, as well as expanding health services.
In collaboration between BMC and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, BMC offers a full tuition fee scholarship “EHSAN” aiming to support orphans who are under the supervision and care of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
Suliman Al-Rajhi Foundation for Development Finance in fruitful partnership with BMC offer an educational financing program “MASLAK” dedicated to bachelor’s degree students. This program gives the opportunity to student to study and pay the tuition fees either during study or after graduation on instalments with zero interest.
Dallah Al Baraka Holding Group in collaboration with BMC offer partial scholarship “IQRAA” for students who need financial support to complete their courses.
A fruitful cooperation and partnership between BMC and Alinma Bank, BMC provides financial and developmental consultations as well as financial support with low and/or no profit loans to start-up companies of financially and socially sustainable businesses.
Based on its social accountability, BMC has agreements with many elementary schools in which BMC students share in teaching, guidance, follow up nutrition, psychological and health status as well as involvement in social and public events.
BMC has agreements with more than 30 high school in Jeddah, in which school students are welcoming to visit BMC and involved in the “Small Scientist Program” which enables high school students to be oriented with scientific and medical research themes as well as innovations and they can contribute and carryout some laboratory experiments and participate in field training. These partnerships enable high school students to access BMC resources and facilities and participate in BMC campaigns and public events as well as such as library and inviting them to participate in meetings and public events, as well as their participation with BMC students in some extra-curricular activities.

Publication of SDG reports

BMC is keen developing its capabilities in accordance with the strategic priorities and the Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasize the role of universities in qualifying human capabilities and presenting distinct research work thereby impact on developing the community. BMC establishes an institutional culture that indorse individual creativity emphasizing teamwork values, mutual respect, and confidence.
BMC has selected 5 SDGs (1, 3, 4, 5, & 17) to highlight its commitment to SDGs and to be implemented aligned with its strategic plan. BMC publishes reports of progress against SDG1, SDG3, SDG4, SDG5 and SDG17.

Education for the SDGs

BMC has dedicated curriculum’sembedded topics and courses in addition to electives courses that address sustainability and the SDGs. BMC’s curricula are designed to improve community health and wellbeing by providing distinguished medical education and scientific research within the values of the profession. BMC’s student-centered curriculum encourages the students to find their passion and path in education and follow them to become lifelong learners through teaching with creativity and dedication, to excel with quality and compassion, and to inspire discovery and innovation with integrity and resolve.
BMC has been accredited by the National Center for Academic Accreditation and evaluation (NCAAA) as well as the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) for providing professional health postgraduate and training programs accredited by SCFHS.
BMC provides Dentistry Clinical Attachment Program to qualify graduates to be attached to a resident in certain specialty to gain clinical experience by observing and shadowing the resident under the supervision of a consultant at highly specialized setting. Moreover, BMC fosters skills development of health care practitioners through well-crafted and well-designed development diploma programs aligned with recent advances in medical educations and professional development. The diplomas offered by BMC include health security, dental assistant, and nursing care technician. These programs contribute meeting the needs of the Saudi labor market for qualified health cadres, and reducing unemployment rates among university graduates, as well as expanding health services. More than 250 Dental Assistants were graduated from BMC diploma program in addition to 52 CSSD Diploma.

Education for the SDGs

BMC has dedicated regular outreach educational activities for the wider community including its alumni, citizens, residents, and displaced people as a track of its social responsibility and community service programs.
These outreach educational activities are dedicated to develop and enhance the individuals and community awareness as well as risk groups of issues related to health and disease as cancer, diabetes, mental health, nutrition, and fitness, first aid, respiratory care, oral hygiene, environmental issues; in addition to intellectual issues, women empowerment, equality, and culture diversity.
