Batterjee Medical College Pharmacy Program (BMCPP) enrolls students after the general preparatory year into 5 years of didactic/experiential courses within the PharmD Program. The program grant graduates with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.

CAREER PATH

Hospital Pharmacist

Pharmacists working in inpatient hospital pharmacy can face a varied set of responsibilities including dispensing medication, making purchasing decisions, monitoring drug therapy, preparing IV medication, and overseeing drug administration. In outpatient setting, pharmacists provide multiple roles ranging from dispensing and counseling to medication therapy management services and transition of care. Pharmacist can work also as a clinical pharmacist after taking residency in one sub-specialty.

Drug Development

Pharmacist role in this setting can include but are not limited to: product development, formulation activities, phase I through IV activities, data entry and management, project management, institutional review board (IRB) approval, statistical analysis, and other required activities necessary to apply for a New Drug Application.

Academia

Pharmacists academicians can hold academic positions in colleges or universities but also in medical, veterinary, public health, public policy, marketing, and other health care–related educational institutions. Positions may range from the dean of a college of pharmacy to a teaching clinical pharmacy position at an off-campus or remote hospital to a classroom professor.

Research centers

Services provided by the pharmacist at research centers can include but are not limited to: product development, formulation activities, phase I through IV activities, data entry and management, project management, institutional review board (IRB) approval, statistical analysis, and other required activities necessary to apply for a new drug application.

CAREER PATH

Community Practice

Pharmacists can work as staff or manager in this setting. The role ranges from quick evaluation of symptoms, laboratory values, and other indicators that can help in directing patients’ therapy, to provide immunizations and medication therapy management (MTM) services. Managers can in charge of the staff, patient care services, inventory management, recruitment, training and development, and general business management.

Regulatory affairs

Pharmacy lawyers work in the areas of patent law, academia, medication-related litigation, boards of pharmacy, and related careers. Regulatory affairs pharmacists are concerned with the regulations and guidelines for clinical trials and other aspects of human research.

Toxicology centers

This specialty area is involved with the detection, analysis and interpretation of samples containing toxic and illicit drugs.

Pharmaceutical companies

In this sector, pharmacist can focus on the capability to analyze the needs of a given market and others on developing communications about specific therapies and products. This is the business of promoting pharmaceuticals both for the clinical aspects of the product as well as gaining market share.
